Best School Website Primary Winners

St. Cronan’s BNS

On Friday 18th December, four of us from 5th class headed off to Eircom Headquarters in Dublin to collect an Eircom Junior Spider Award for the School Website. The award was for the Best Educational Primary School Website. It was presented to the four of us and our teacher Mr. Karl Ó Broin, who is in charge of the school website.

In St. Cronan’s, we have had a school website since 1996, and the boys in the school have always been involved in keeping it up to date. In 2007, we launched a new school website at its new address www.stcronans.ie, and as part of this, we decided to try out the idea of individual class websites. Two of our teachers, Siobhán Donnelly and Karl Ó Broin, set up websites for their classes, and the students kept them up to date with news. Since then, many other classes have started their own websites.

Along with this, we have an Edulinks section on our school website (www.edulinks.stcronans.ie) which has learning games for all classes, and which the boys can access at home to help with their school work. We also like to use the website to tell the community and the rest of the world what we are up to in St. Cronan’s. We have been contacted by people as far away as Chile and New Zealand who have seen our work, and we are delighted that so many people are interested in our school.
We were absolutely thrilled to be one of the first schools to win an Eircom Junior Spider Award. We are very proud of all the work done by Mr. Ó Broin and all those involved in making our school website as fantastic as it is !
