FAQs

How come I havent heard of the Junior Spiders before?

Maybe you’ve had your head in the sand? Hopefully not! 2009 was our first year running the awards and it takes a while for every student and teacher to become aware of it. If you would like to tell your friends about the Junior Spiders send them on this link http://www.juniorspiders.ie

Who can enter?

All primary and post primary school students and teachers from the Republic or Northern Ireland may enter. Entrants are representing themselves and their school. You may enter as an individual, group of up to three, class or school.

Why enter?

All winners will meet Aidan Power at the Awards Ceremony and get to show him their website.
This year there will be an exhibition. If you are a finalist (post primary) or a winner (primary) you will get to exhibit your website on the day.
There will be influential business people from the technology and web design industry there.
Its great fun designing your own website or web app, and a very useful skill to have.

How do I enter?

Choose which category to enter. Check what is needed (criteria) for the category. Choose the category you think you could do best in.
Once your website is complete…enter the awards.  You need to fill out the entry form and send it online to us.
All entries need to have your teacher/principal contact name and number or it wont qualify.
All entries are sent in online. Do not post in your entry.
You will receive a confirmation email with a junior spiders badge to post on your website. Please put this on your homepage.

What questions are on the entry form?

All the usual- name, school etc. You need a teacher to represent your entry and to provide their email and phone number. You’ll also need to say what software/websites you used to create your entry and to explain your website/app in 200 words. This is where you can really show off and direct the judges to the best parts of your website/app. Its a good idea to address the judges’ criteria in this section.

Is there a cost to enter?

No, it is free to enter the awards!

When is the closing date?

Friday 5th November 2010

What are the categories?

Please see the categories page for full details.

Is there a limit to the number of categories a school can enter?

No, a school can enter as many categories as they wish. They can also enter any given category as many times as they like.

How do I nominate a joint project between two schools?

Unfortunately you cant. Each entry must be from the one school and one age group.

Can I enter one website/app in multiple categories?

No. A website may only be entered into one category. If the judges feel your entry would fit more appropriately into another category, they may decide to move it to give you the best chance of winning.
