The debut of Eircom’s new online learning space, StudyHub, got the X-Factor treatment as bubbly Dublin twins and former contestants John and Edward Grimes, aka, Jedward, helped launch the service, which is aimed at both Junior and Leaving Cert students.

The Junior Spiders Team have decided to award Ms. Ann Kinsella of Gaelscoil na Ríthe, Dunshaughlin. With the time and dedication she gave to this project her students now have a website containing all of their work on the study of butterflies which other students, parents and friends can enjoy.
Have a look at the website she created with the students, its all about the life of the butterfly as gaeilge. The site is also the 2009 Primary School Grand Prix winner; http://anfeileacan.webs.com/
Thank you to Primary Times who sent us in the fabulous prize of a mini-break in the Galway Bay Hotel for the winning teacher. Congratulations Ms Kinsella!

The Scoilnet webhosting-blogging service provides both a website hosting and a blogging service for Primary and Post Primary schools. The Scoilnet blogging service allows schools to easily develop a school website or school blog and host it for free on the schools broadband network. The blogging service supports different types of content, including text, images, audio, including podcasts and video clips.
Both the blogging and webhosting service are currently available to schools via the NCTE Service Desk, so schools who contact the Service Desk will receive information on how to get webhosting and blogging up and running. NCTE are still in the process of improving our processes and documentation and we’re also developing a Scoilnet Blogging CPD training course for schools which will be available to teachers. During this period the service is in ‘beta’ or ‘trial’.
Schools wishing to apply for Scoilnet webhosting-blogging service should:
1. First go to https://onlinenames.scoilnet.ie/ to obtain an ‘Online Name’. A letter was sent to your school principal with login access details in May 2008. If you do not have these login access details you may contact the NCTE Service Desk at 1800 33 44 66, and they will assist you.
2. School Principals are required to sign the Webhosting Application Form as part of the application process. This form is available from the NCTE Service Desk. Schools should then return the signed application form to the NCTE Service Desk.
3. Applications forms will be processed by the NCTE Service Desk and where forms are successfully completed, login details for the webhosting-blogging service will be sent to the school, along with other relevant information.
For further information regarding this service, schools should contact the NCTE Service Desk at 1800 33 44 66 or servicedesk@ncte.ie.

Hi Conor here again,
Ok so you want more than a bebo page can offer you.
There are lots of “free” website makers out there. Here are a few to check out. Always check the terms and conditions and read the F.A.Q’s for more info www.webs.com www.sites.google.com www.moonfruit.com (my favourite) There are tons more but these are ones I have checked out.
With the free versions of these site makers there is nothing to stop you getting stuck in and having your website up and running in a matter of hours.
The pros:
Free, easy to use, no credit card needed, fun to do
The cons:
Limited storage space, your website is hard to find on google,
No domain name (e.g www.yoursite,com) it would be more like
yoursite.webs.com etc.
